SUMMARY:Sketches on Duality - Hin und Weg Festival
DESCRIPTION:Musikalisch gemütlich gemacht haben es sich Sketches On Duality zwischen den Stühlen Hip Hop und Jazz. Eine auf den ersten Blick nicht mehr unbedingt so seltene Kombination\, doch im Falle dieser im Jahr 2016 gegründeten Wiener Band erfährt sie dann doch eine etwas andere Ausrichtung\, als man es vielleicht anfangs vermutet. Das liegt vor allem daran\, dass Jahson The Scientist (Vocals)\, Heli Mühlbacher (Gitarre)\, Felipe Scolfaro Crema (Keys)\, David Dolliner (Bass) und Michael Prowaznik (Schlagzeug) – die fünf Köpfe hinter dem Bandprojekt – sich mit erfrischender Experimentierfreude der ganzen Sache annähern. Versetzt mit einer Prise Funk\, ein wenig Fusion und viel Soul lassen Sketches On Duality einen eigenständigen Sound entstehen\, über den sich poetische Spoken Word Texte und flowiger Rap abwechseln. \nIn den Texten geht es der Band um Liebe\, ums Menschsein\, um den Versuch\, das Leben mit wissenschaftlichen Theorien und Erkenntnissen zu erklären – um schlussendlich doch wieder feststellen zu müssen\, dass einzig das Herz die richtigen Entscheidungen treffen kann. Angesiedelt an der Grenze von Lebens- und Tanzlust verbindet das Ensemble ausgedehnte Instrumental-Soli mit (lebens-)notwendigen Grooves.

DESCRIPTION:Inner Heights is the first solo album of Jahson The Scientist and as the title suggests is about tapping into our inner realities that exist beyond what we see. Inspired by the quantum world\, David Bohm’s “implicate order” and an understanding that intangible things affect physical reality. These concepts are woven in the wordplay and lyrics of this hip hop album with UK influences and afro-rhythms. \nScience and technology has allowed us to access more information in the palm of our hand than a library can be filled with books. However\, we are becoming so externally focused and are losing our own internal sat-nav and AI friendship has turned up as a solution to our decreasing social interaction. \n“Inner Heights” is an empowering rebellion to this\, it embraces the chaos of life and urges us to claim our sovereignty by embracing our individual worlds\, our differences and celebrating that when we interact to form society. \nThe album brings a spotlight on themes like boundary setting on “Dutty Water\, Plush Vessel”\, forgiveness on “4-Giving” and self worth “Hybreed”\, featuring vocals from Paulo Luemba and production from Simon Öggl\, Silly Crystal\, Harry Dean Lewis\, Slugz and Mez. On the chorus of “Inner Heights” Paulo Luemba calls us to to embrace our centre and Jahson asks us to trust our path\nand timing “in the right time\, with no force\, it happens”. “Lean on you” is asking us to trust the unseen source of life “Who’s bigger than “Jah”. \n“Inner Heights” is a journey of an Afro-Caribbean Londoner living in Austria. Poesiefestival Berlin\, a project by Haus für Poesie in cooperation with Akademie der Künste. \nOpening your mouth means getting involved. Spoken Word is poetic\, performative\, political\, socially engaged and artistically diverse. Over the course of two separate evenings\, ten national and international poets will present their poetic work. The invited authors have written texts that bear witness to experiences of exclusion and discrimination\, the struggle for sexual freedom\, self-determination and climate catastrophe – or simply the search for closeness and love. Whether spoken\, sung or rapped – those who speak here speak for themselves\, but also for and with others. Begging the question: How can we listen to each other\, learn from each other and imagine living and writing together?
